We have just finished reading what we think is, quite honestly, the most emotional but amazing book we have read so far this year (2017) and it is…………..There’s a boy in the girls’ bathroom! It is a story of a boy who started off as a bully, but by visiting a school councillor and getting lost on the way, his life changes forever. There is plenty of humour in the story which will keep you entertained and the chapters always end in an exciting way, keeping you on edge! This book was so powerful that it made one of us cry, and even Miss G and a few others will admit that they felt on the verge of tears too. We’ll never forget some of the best moments in the story:
- The excuse Bradley gave for holding his face when trying to hide his black eye.
- The moment when he sat on a birthday cake because there weren’t any chairs left in a game of musical chairs.
- Bradley wondering if having a dog called Chicken meant that if there was a chicken in the family, it would be called dog.
We’d quite like to read some of Louis Sachar’s other books now. Even though this book was fairly simple to read, without lots of strong vocabulary, it taught us a lot about emotions and made us think about how other people feel. The themes in the story were about kindness and having courage: people can always change, you just have to believe in yourself. Just as a final point…always say hello back to someone or watch your back for Zen monks! (If you think we’re talking cuckoo, then you’ll just have to read the book!)
