Yesterday we had incredibly long drive- about five hours, but I learned so much about US History and the impact of settlers on the political History and the Civil War. You may want to look at how the French and Spanish were involved as well as the British.
We passed through Mississippi state and found some space junk!
i learned that there was a NASA base that is developing new ways to get into space since the shuttle was decommissioned.
I also learned that Maxwell airforce base in Alabama was used to train British pilots during wW 2
All this before we reached New Orleans , which was quite sobering initially when we saw for ourselves the impact of Hurricane Katrina and the reality of being in a place brings these Historicalevents in your own living memory to life.
That makes the vibrancy and warmth of the city even more heartening. What a fabulous city. Last night we had a meal on a steam boat in the Mississippi River- something that from watching old films and Huckleberry Finn in my early days I thought I would only ever dream of!
I wonder what I will discover today!
