Thank you to all the parents that were able to make the Meet and Greet session last week. It was lovely to see so many faces and inform you on how well the little owls are doing. They have settled so well and we are all enjoying having them in our school.
For those of you that were not able to make it, here is what we discussed.
Home/school books – these are our ‘Communication Books‘. These come home daily. Anything that you feel we need to know can be written in these books. A record of children’s Captains Coins are in the front of these books – these are rewarded when children show that they are following the School’s 3 rules. At the back of these books are the children’s password so they can access ‘Mathletics’ and ‘Education City’ which are online teaching tools that can be used at home.
Reading books – initially we will be handing out no word books. This is to promote valuable higher order skills such as justifying. This will also encourage children/adults to spend time discussing and enjoying the book together. These will not be changed every day, please let us know if it needs changing by putting the book and reading record in the tray near the entrance door.
Please also encourage your child to read a variety of other book, magazines and visit the library etc. This will also make sure your child will develop a love of reading and read books for interest.
Log Books come home each month. They will contain all the work that your child does during that day. There is a slip at the front of the book where we put a comment. Please remember to make a comment once you have enjoyed looking through the book with your child.
Learning Journeys – please look at this regularly and feel free to add photographs and comments about wonderful things you have noticed your child doing at home.
We do daily phonics. We will be holding a phonics workshop later in the year which will explain how we teach phonics in our class. We aim to keep it as active and fun as possible.
Numbers to 5 first – counting recognising and following the GREATER DEPTH/MASTERY approach.
If you have any further question, please come and see one of our team and we will do our best to answer and queries you have.
