Dance into the weekend!

8th February 2019 By Maria Beck

Wow what a week!!

This week has been a very tiring, but amazing week for the Robins!

We competed in the Sky Theatre Challenge at Melton Theatre as part of 6 schools on the night.

I must first say that Year 3 conducted themselves brilliantly and were an absolute credit to the school!

We were amazing (if I do say so myself). Each and every child should be so so proud of themselves!

Image

It was such a lovely day and evening to be part of and we worked so so hard to learn the dance! We have been working on our facial expression and body language and this was commented on by the judges!

Thank you to all the parents that supported us!

Have a lovely restful weekend!

P.S – We were robbed!

All Change!

25th January 2019 By Maria Beck

What a busy week we have had again!

Thank you to all the parents that came to parents evening and shared in all your wonderful children’s achievements! It was lovely to see both them and you so proud of how they are progressing in there learning.

We have had a move around in the classroom as well! It would be lovely to know what the children think about it?

I think that is has had a really positive effect on our learning! It has made the classroom look so much bigger!

Have a great weekend!

Roman Roads, Delicious dances and Storytime selfies!

18th January 2019 By Maria Beck

What a great first couple of weeks back!

We have been learning all about the Romans and how they had influenced modern Britain!

We have explored everything from being a Roman slave to how they constructed the Roman roads.

A particular favourite of  ours was the constructing the Roman roads, we did not do this the conventional way, we decided to make ours edible!

They were superb! We used different ingredients to represent all the different layers!

(pictures coming soon!)

We have also been learning our performance for The Sky Challenge at the beginning of next month! Robins are performing a version of Alice in Wonderland – but as you’ve never seen it before! The children are working so hard at this and the dance is coming along amazingly – Thanks to the help of Hannah a wonderful teacher that is coming in to help! ( as Mrs Beck is a terrible dancer!)

Finally today we were read a book by Miss Sims for the Story time selfie! We absolutely loved it! – See Twitter feeds for pictures of what the whole school got up to!

Nativity!

14th December 2018 By Maria Beck

What a lovely penultimate week we have had this week!!

The Robins very much enjoyed watching the performances of Year R and Year 1 and 2! They were fantastic and should all be very proud!

Although we have all been feeling very festive this week we have still been working hard! Trying to explain what Christmas is to a Caveman. We are going to be looking at how to show them how to cook a Christmas dinner and also write a set of instructions for how to wrap a present.

For this if any of you have a small box at home then could they bring them in so we can practice our wrapping??

We have been measuring items around the classroom as well, we are hoping to make UG a pair of trousers using these skills! How do you think we could do this?? Any ideas welcome!!

Have a great weekend!

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

7th December 2018 By Maria Beck

The Robins have had a very busy week this week!!

We have worked really hard on our maths this week – we were given some numbers like 24 and 28 and had to work out all the multiples!

Can you help us?

We also worked hard to match a lot of multiplication questions to their answer!

In English this week we worked with the Year 4’s to discuss our writing of a Diary Entry. We read each others work and offered them some feedback. This was very helpful for both classes so we could see how well both classes are doing!

Today we have had a onesie and pj’s non uniform day! It is so nice to see everyone getting involved and donating so many wonderful things! It is also lovely to see some very festive items of clothing, helping us all to feel festive and to start getting excited about Christmas!

Keep working hard Robins!

Have a lovely weekend!

Children in Need and Fantastic football!

16th November 2018 By Maria Beck

What a week!! Robins have been fantastic and I am super proud of their achievements!

Today we have been celebrating and raising money for Children in Need. We have had a non-uniform day and a lot of us have been wearing spots or stripes.

We have a lot of funky head wear going on as well!

These are some of the reasons why we think Children in Need is such an important charity to be supporting;

‘We show others who may not have a very nice life that we care about them’  – Evie

‘Children in need gives them the chance to live a life like our life and not a terrible life’ – George

‘We raise money to show that we care’ – Ava S

‘Children in need helps all children to need a bit of extra help in the UK’ – Ella-Mae

I think you will agree these are perfect reasons for showing others a bit of support and compassion! Helping us to develop empathy for all.

We have also had some fantastic football coaching today thanks to a coach from West Brom.

‘I liked the game of cowboys and indians that we played, teaching us how to dribble and dodge’ – Mia

‘ We got to learn new skills in a fun and interesting way’ Logan

‘I liked the skills we learnt through playing ‘sharks and surfers” – Ailie.

What a fantastic way to finish off a busy but amazing week!

Remembering and reflecting.

9th November 2018 By Maria Beck

This week for the Robins class has been all about reflecting.

We have been looking at our work and how to make it even better, spending time on our English work, writing some fantastic letters back to a wonderful person called Orla. – Again we still cannot give away too much information! – Top secret stuff!

We have also finished off our addition and subtraction in Maths – for now and have moved on to learning about multiplication and division.

We are super mathematicians and can work out our division calculations from our multiplications!

eg – 3 x 3 = 9 so 9 ÷ 3 = 3

We have been reflecting on the past, particularly with this weekend, remembering those who fought for their country. Robins spoke very movingly about Rev. Peter’s assembly on Thursday and the impact that it had on them! Producing some lovely posters all about Remembrance and what it means to everyone.

It is always lovely to reflect upon our learning and to watch the class grow!

What are you reflecting on this week and weekend?

Have a great weekend.

Magical Maths and weird happenings.

2nd November 2018 By Maria Beck

Maybe it’s because it is Halloween week, but strange things have been happening in Robins class, things have been going missing all over the school and have turned up in some very unusual spaces. We have been writing stories to see if these help….cryptic we know, but we cannot share very much about it, or it won’t work. We planned it carefully step by step before creating it.

‘In Maths we have been super subtractors and worked our socks off’ – EW

‘I like using the column method’ AJ

We have looked at some difficult subtractions that involve borrowing numbers! But we really are superb Mathematicians and have aced it.

We are also beginning to look at a new topic: Big Thanks to Mrs Walkley for her incredible creativity!!!

‘Our reading corner has been turned into a cave!’ -BH

‘ We are learning about the Stone Age and caves were a big part of their lives’ – AL, DH

We are going to be creating our own cave art on the walls of our cave!

Do you know why people painted pictures on caves? What were they about?

Have a good weekend! Robins. x

Since half term….

25th October 2018 By Maria Beck

This week we have been learning all about an old book that Mrs Beck bought in. We thought it was an older book as the pages looked dusty and worn out.

‘The book was magical’ – Daniel.

‘We can’t wait to see what happens next’ – Mia and Evie.

‘The book was about two people called Abe and Alba who were very mischievous and liked having adventures’ – Mable.

‘I have no idea where the book originally came from, I have never seen it before. It has been a superb book to explore as a class.’ – Mrs Beck

We can’t tell you any more at this moment, but we will update you next time – Keep your eyes open!

We have also enjoyed a taster session of Basketball with the Leicester Riders. We learnt a lot in just a short space of time and can’t wait to practice what we have learnt.

‘ I enjoyed having a go at dribbling and learning how to control the basketball’ – Noah.

‘ I enjoyed working with my friends in a game’ – George.

What a great first week back – lots more to come – Robins

This half-term for Robins :)

12th October 2018 By Maria Beck

We have had a very, very busy few weeks, and we are super proud of all we have achieved this half term.

Here are some of our favourite bits:

I liked writing about the Iron Man in my English book.  -AM

I loved learning about past and present tense. – EW

I really enjoyed learning about life in the olden days. – EMF

I liked learning about Robots and how they work. – RC

We’ve all loved learning the four timestable using the song. – GH

Some of the Robin girls played football with Year 4 against other schools. They had a great afternoon and brought back a trophy. Well done, girls.

We wish everyone a great half term holiday. Have a lovely time!
